NEW YORK/ LONDON EDUCATIONAL VISIT 2025 – LONDON P&I CLUB

NY/LONDON trip / Cohort’s Log / Day 4

It was a privilege being hosted once again by the London P&I Club at their offices. Our cohort, of 41 postgraduate students and three faculty members, received a warm welcome, followed by a series of engaging sessions that deepened our understanding of the marine insurance sector.

Mr. Ian Carter, Associate Director and Mr. John Warman, Claims Executive of the London Club shared valuable insights through case studies, including container incidents involving nurdle pollution and the Club’s coordinated efforts to mitigate environmental impact. We also explored the topic of salvage operations and discussed the declining use of Lloyd’s Open Form (LOF) contracts, highlighting the environmental benefits of promoting their use.

A presentation by Mrs. Annie Stow of the International Group of P&I Clubs further expanded our knowledge, outlining the Group’s risk-sharing mechanisms and its pivotal role in supporting the maritime industry.

Beyond formal sessions, we enjoyed networking opportunities over coffee with Club staff and management, with our postgraduate students exchanging views with marine insurance experts.

We are grateful for the hospitality, expertise and memorable discussions and extend our warmest thanks and best wishes and we are looking forward for our next year’s visit.
